Liverpool reportedly interested in Wolves goal scoring star

Liverpool set to rival Tottenham for the signing of Wolves talisman.

Liverpool are set to battle Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan, according to Football Insider.

The online news portal claims that the Reds and Spurs are assessing the 27-year-old with a summer move in mind and are unlikely to make a bid this month.

The South Korea international has been in fine form this season for Wolves, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.

Hee-chan is expected to represent South Korea at the Asian Cup this month and will be a big miss for Gary O’Neil’s side, who have won their last four league games including beating Chelsea at home.

His versatility makes him a key player for Wolves as he’s able to play on the left, right, and through the middle but has impressed in a more central role this term.

Football Insider states that, “Scouts have been blown away by Hwang‘s performances for Wolves this season since his move into a centre-forward role.”

Hee-chan’s contract with Wolves was expected to expire in the summer of 2026, however, the club opted to reward the forward’s progress by handing him a bumper new contract running until 2028 in December.

Gary O’Neil said: “I’m delighted for him firstly because he’s worked extremely hard.

“He’s given me and the staff and his teammates absolutely everything since I’ve been here.

“He’s obviously scored some really important goals and I’m delighted for the club to secure his services for longer. A great guy.

“He came looking for me and the staff yesterday to thank us all for the hard work we have done with him to help him earn his new contract. It just speaks a lot about what Channy is and how important he is for the group.

“I’m delighted when someone puts as much in as he does that he has been rewarded with goals and assists and a new contract.”

Hee-chan joined the Midlands side on an initial loan from RB Leipzig in 2021 before making the move a permanent one 12 months later.

He has since scored 20 goals and seven assists during his time in England, with 18 of those strikes coming in the top- flight.
