Roberto Firmino has expressed his delight and thankfulness at being able to return to Anfield on New Years Day.

Alongside Fabinho, the Brazilian pair were present to watch Liverpool battle to a 4-2 win over Newcastle United on New Years Day.

Firmino and Fabinho both left Liverpool in the summer, with the pair joining Saudi Pro League clubs Al Ahli and Al Ittihad respectively.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com about his return, Roberto Firmino revealed that it was an emotional time returning to his former club:

“I’m very happy to be back here at home, at Liverpool and the stadium as well, Anfield.”

“I’m very grateful to God for bringing me these moments again, to watch the game.”

“Of course I’m not playing but I watch the game and see the boys,” said Firmino.

“It’s always emotional [to be here], you cannot forget you were here.”

“We had a very good history here at the club that we achieved together and nobody can claim this history, it’s already in the history [books].

“We are here to support.”

It’s always nice to see former players return to Anfield, especially one’s as legendary as Fabinho and Firmino.

What’s next for Roberto Firmino?

Roberto Firmino has unfortunately not enjoyed the best time out in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli.

His new start initially started brightly, even managing to score a hattrick on his debut for his new team.

However, the situation has deteriorated for the 32-year-old, and he could now find himself leaving Al-Ahli in the January transfer window.

It is believed that the former Liverpool man is ‘frustrated’ by Al Ahli’s system and has not scored in more than 16 games for the Saudi outfit.

Sheffield United have been linked with a move for the former Liverpool man.

Roberto Firmino could also return to his native Brazil.
