Liverpool was in fine attacking form against Newcastle United with Mohamed Salah at the heart of it all.
He made up for his missed penalty in the first half with one of his finest performances in a red shirt and there has been many.
Salah broke the deadlock in the second half as he was on the end of a ruthless counter-attack to tap the ball home.
He started the attack on the right side for the second goal and opened up the Newcastle defence before Diogo Jota squared it to Curtis Jones for a tap-in.
The third goal was all of Salah’s making as he chested down a pass on the right flank before beautifully delivering the ball into Cody Gakpo with a trivela pass.
Then he got his second of the game with a penalty making up for the one he didn’t put away in the first half.

Salah’s splendid game on New Year’s day has earned him another special card on EAFC 24 as he got a space in the team of the week.

His new card is 92 rated and it is the highest rated in a team of the week dominated by Premier League players.
Sadio Mane, who he used to work wonders with at Liverpool, also got into the team which is the 16th edition in the game so far.
From the Premier League Phil Fodem, Michael Olise, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Cole Palmer and Chris Wood also got an in-form card.
This new special card for Salah is his sixth one of the game so far with his original card being 89 rated.
He has had two other previous team of the week cards as well as one player of the month card.
The other promos he has been given a new card for are Trailblazers and the winter wildcards.
