In the summer there was a Liverpool midfield rebuild with several players leaving at the end of their contracts but then there was a shock as club captain Jordan Henderson wanted to leave.
Henderson got his wish as he went to Saudi Arabia and joined Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq forcing Liverpool to get more numbers in midfield positions.
Liverpool have done well to replace Henderson who was a pivotal player to all of Jurgen Klopp’s success which followed after he joined the club in 2015.
Dominik Szoboszlai has been his like-for-like replacement and the Hungarian has performed to a high level as have Liverpool so far this campaign as they sit top of the table.
However, it has not been as plain sailing for Henderson over in the Middle East.
The Times states that Jordan Henderson wants to return to Europe
According to a report from The Times, it appears that Henderson is already wanting to leave Saudi Arabia after just six months at his new side.
He wants to return to England or Europe even though he is a consistent started for Al-Ettifaq.
So far during this season he has played 19 games in all competitions and has got five assists but in recent weeks things have not gone well for the side.
Gerrard hasn’t managed to muster a win for his side in his last eight league games with their last victory coming in October.
Henderson joined in the summer alongside the likes of Gini Wijnaldum, Demarai Gray, Moussa Dembele and Jack Hendry yet they are struggling.
The England international is seemingly going to be the first player to jump ship as he wants to look for a move during this transfer window.
After being a key player for Liverpool for so long there is no doubt that he still has quality to play in the Premier League or in Europe but now he will have to wait and see who wants to take him from Saudi Arabia.
