Ben Foster has claimed that one Liverpool man is outperforming his Manchester City counterpart this season.
The Reds have enjoyed a great first-half of the campaign and lead the Cityzens by five points heading into the winter break.
However, Pep Guardiola’s men have a game in hand, and always seem to get better towards the end of the season as well.
Nonetheless, Ben Foster believes Trent Alexander-Arnold has proved to be more of a game changer compared to Kyle Walker.
What did Ben Foster say?
Speaking on his YouTube channel as named his Premier League of the season so far, the former Watford ‘keeper raved about Alexander-Arnold while comparing him to Walker:
“Do you know what? This is a tough decision to make because I agree with what you’re saying here.”
“I think Kyle Walker still at this moment in time is probably the best right-back in the world, maybe.”
“He’s in the top three in the world. He has to be. And again, the best right-back probably the Premier League has ever seen,” Foster said.
However, Foster then went on to claim that Liverpool’s vice-captain has just edged into his team of the season so far, over Kyle Walker:
“I think for this season, I think Trent has just been that little bit more of a game-changer.”
“He offers just a little bit more going forward.”
“And bearing in mind the team I want to play at, I want some attacking wing-backs, I do. I want them getting forward, I want them getting inside.”
“I want the assists, I want the goals from them. And I think for me, Trent in the last couple of months specifically, has really stepped his game up, massively stepped his game up in fact.”
“And that’s the reason why I’m going to go for Trent at right-back.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold has reached a new level this season
There is no doubt that Trent Alexander-Arnold has reached a new level this term.
His best season statistically for the Reds came in the 2021/22 season, where he managed 2 goals and 19 assists in 47 games.
This year, he’s on course to have his best ever campaign, already posting 2 goals and 9 assists in 21 appearances.
Defensively, he seems more solid, and that side of his game is not attracting as much attention as it did previously.
The license he has to move into the middle of the park has no doubt contributed to his fine form in 2023/24.
