Club aiming to find ‘amicable solution’ over exit of former Liverpool man

It seems one Liverpool man who left at the end of the 2022/23 season could find himself back in the Premier League after just one season.

Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to depart Turkish giants Besiktas after only one season at the club.

The former England international has been at the Super Lig club since the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

He joined after a six-year spell on Merseyside.

The 30-year-old midfielder transferred from Arsenal to Liverpool for approximately £35 million in August 2017. His stint with Liverpool was a mix of significant achievements and challenging periods.

The former Liverpool player struggled to secure a consistent starting position under Jurgen Klopp, particularly after suffering a severe multi-level injury during a match against Roma in 2018.

Despite these setbacks, he contributed to Liverpool’s successes, including the 2019 UEFA Champions League victory and the Premier League title in the 2019-2020 season.

During his six years at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain made 146 appearances, netting 18 goals and assisting 15 times.

In 2023, he sought a new beginning with a move to Besiktas following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.

At his new club, he quickly became a key player, appearing in 30 matches across all competitions.

But despite managing to make an impression in Turkey, it seems that Besiktas are ready to let him go.

What is the latest on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?

The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal has reported that both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Besiktas are working on options that would see the former Arsenal man return to the Premier League.

Despite helping the club to a sixth-placed finish in the league and the Turkish Cup, it seems their paths have come to an end.

The Athletic report:

“Besiktas and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are reviewing options for the former Liverpool midfielder to move back to the Premier League.”

“The Turkish club are open to a sale as they restructure their squad and cut their wage bill.”

“All parties are aiming to find an amicable solution and allow him to return to the UK.”

“Clubs are currently exploring the terms of a potential permanent or loan deal.”

Chamberlain will likely draw plenty of interest from Premier League clubs, especially those who have been promoted to the topflight for this season.

The likes of Sheffield United were interested in the ex-Liverpool man in January, so clubs of a similar standing will likely come sniffing again.

Perhaps a return to boyhood club Southampton could be on the cards, where he scored 10 goals in 43 appearances as a teenager before transferring to Arsenal.

The Saints are on the market for an attacking midfielder as evidenced by a bid for Fabio Carvalho, so perhaps he is a good option for manager Russell Martin
