Fabrizio Romano has delivered transfer news that Liverpool could benefit from without lifting a finger.

The Anfield club has been lauded for its smart and calculated transfer strategy in recent years, a hallmark of the club’s operations under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and the guidance of key figures like Michael Edwards.

This approach has allowed Liverpool to build a competitive squad within its financial means, focusing on value and potential rather than extravagant spending.

Edwards’ data-driven approach and keen eye for talent have been crucial.

He managed to secure players who fit Jurgen Klopp’s system perfectly, often outmaneuvering wealthier competitors.

This strategic planning extended beyond just purchasing players; it also involved timely contract renewals and the profitable sale of players who no longer fit into the club’s plans.

Despite the challenges in the current transfer market, with inflated prices and intense competition, Liverpool’s methodical approach has proven effective.

The club’s ability to balance immediate needs with long-term planning has set it apart from many of its rivals.

As Liverpool continues to evolve under new head coach Arne Slot, the strategic direction set by FSG, Edwards, and now Hughes, will be critical to its ongoing success.

And it seems the Reds are now set to profit from this kind of approach with Fabrizio Romano’s latest report.

What did Fabrizio Romano report involving Liverpool?

The Italian transfer guru has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of former Red Dominic Solanke.

Solanke was at Liverpool from 2017 until January 2019 where he was sold to the Cherries for a fee of £19 million.

It’s fair to say that the striker has impressed for the south coast club since the transfer, netting an impressive 19 goals in the Premier League across 2023/24.

Only Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer, and Alexander Isak scored more than the former Liverpool forward in the division.

As a result, Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in Solanke and are now making moves to secure the signing.

Romano reports:

“Understand Tottenham are pushing to get Dominic Solanke deal done, talks underway with Bournemouth.”

“Solanke has given the green light to Spurs as negotiations are ongoing to discuss under value of £65m clause.”

“Tottenham want Solanke, as exclusively revealed last week.”

As a result of his initial transfer to Bournemouth, Liverpool inserted a sell-on clause in the deal – a 20 per cent on any profit made from an onward transfer.

Liverpool would get about £9 million based on a 20 percent cut of £46 million if Solanke were to move for the release clause figure of £65 million.

The initial £19 million the Cherries paid is not included in the percentage, only the profit that Bournemouth would make from a sale involving Solanke.

As you can work out, the amount would be lower if Spurs are able to navigate away from the release clause.

Nevertheless, it’s still really smart business that Liverpool that they could potentially receive close to £10 million for sale made more than five years ago.
