The future of Martin Zubimendi may not be as clear as some suggest.

Numerous reliable UK reporters covered news on Wednesday stating that Martin Zubimendi’s move to Liverpool was looking positive.

David Ornstein stated: “Real Sociedad expect midfielder Martin Zubimendi to agree a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool have been exploring a deal to sign Zubimendi as they work to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad with a new No 6 but a move for the Spain international is complicated by his €60million (£51.7m; $63.4m) release clause needing to be paid in full — if the La Liga club are not willing to negotiate a fee below that figure.

If Zubimendi asks to leave Real Sociedad, the club will grant his wish.”

Gerard Romero casts doubt on Zubimendi move

Gerard Romero, a Spanish football journalist, has cast doubt on the future of the Spanish international.

Although most outlets reported that a fee had yet to be agreed between the clubs, it was generally accepted that the move is looking positive.

However, Romero has said:

“Martin Zubimendi’s departure to Liverpool is not so clear, he could stay at Real Sociedad for another year.”

“We will see this Thursday how the story ends, because tonight has been hectic.”

The move may yet materialise but Liverpool supporters are in for an anxious few days.
