Liverpool’s interest in Martin Zubimendi continues as the Reds look to secure their first summer signing.
According to Mikel Recalde, Real Sociedad are planning to offer the 25-year-old a new bumper deal to fend off interest from Arne Slot’s side.
Real Sociedad are looking to offer Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino, who is wanted by Arsenal, new deals. The contracts would make them the highest earners at the club, but Zubimendi’s new contract is ‘very far’ off Liverpool’s contract offer.
The reliable reporter states: “Zubimendi has opened a lot of paths that will be difficult to undo with the meetings he has had with Liverpool in the last two weeks. Liverpool expects him to wear Red next season onwards.”
Recalde suggests that despite La Real making a late attempt to keep the Spanish international, it may all be in vain.
According to the report, Zubimendi could make a decision on his future this weekend.
In a major boost for Liverpool, Recalde says:
“There is little hope in Zubieta (Basque country) that Zubimendi will break everything that was discussed and agreed with Liverpool and stay at Real Sociedad.”
