Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s chances in the English Premier League this season.

The Reds will begin the 2024/25 season with a trip to Portman Road Stadium, where they will face newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

Despite being at the top of the Premier League table for much of last season, the Anfield side finished third, behind winners Manchester City and Arsenal.

It was the fifth time in the last six seasons Liverpool had finished in the top three.

However, Liverpool have made wholesale from last season.

For the first time since October 2015, the Reds will be coached by a man not named Jurgen Klopp.

Arne Slot is in his first season at the club and will be desperate to follow Klopp’s footsteps by winning the title, having declared his desire to do better than Liverpool’s third-place finish last season.

But the Dutchman has to battle with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.

City are looking to become the first club to win five consecutive English titles.

Arsenal will also be in the mix and will attempt to end their 21-year wait for a Premier League title.

Jamie Carragher makes his new season prediction

One man who has the experience of being a Liverpool player under a new manager is Jamie Carragher.

The Englishman, now with Sky Sports as a pundit, has revealed his Premier League top-four prediction for the season.

In doing so, Carragher rules out Liverpool for the title and claims a top four finish will be a big achievement for Slot’s men.

Asked who will win the title, Carragher told FourFourTwo: “I can only see Arsenal or City really.

“I know people are talking about Arsenal because they’ve gone close twice and they’re really close to making that next step.

“But I still look at Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, and I think that is still better than what Arsenal have got.

“I think Arsenal are one attacking player short.

“They’ve got Bukayo Saka but the other two in terms of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard, I think they need one more who’s pretty special to take over from Man City.’

On Liverpool’s chances this season, Carragher said; “I was really surprised Liverpool came so close last season, if I’m being honest.

“With the new manager coming in, finding his feet in the Premier League, most Liverpool fans would expect top four this season.

“I don’t think anyone will be expecting a title.

“If you could have a title challenge like last season, and maybe a new manager comes in and adds something to what Jurgen Klopp had, but having a new manager in the Premier League is not easy and I think Liverpool slightly overperformed last season in terms of being in the title race for so long.

“Another season like Liverpool had last season would be a great start for Arne Slot.”

It seems that Jamie Carragher thinks he and many LFC fans think the league will be beyond them.

Arne Slot’s men will be doing their best to prove him room.

We’re sure if they did, Jamie Carragher would not be too disappointed.
