He has been gone for less than a few hours, but Fabio Carvalho has wasted no time in taking what seems like a dig at Liverpool.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder completed a permanent move to Brentford this evening.
He signed a five year contract with the West London club, with the option of an extra year.
Liverpool will reportedly bank around £27 million with add-ons from the deal, representing a sizeable profit from the player who they signed for about £5 million from Fulham two seasons ago.
The 21-year-old made 21 appearances for Liverpool in two seasons and was thought to be one of the few players that will benefit from Arne Slot’s hire, after his impressive loan spell at Hull City at the second half of last season.
He enjoyed a productive pre-season with Liverpool and looked like a man reborn.
However, he has departed Anfield without fulfilling his dreams or hitting the heights many Liverpool fans expected.
What Fabio Carvalho said
Many have asked why Slot and Liverpool allowed the 21-year-old to leave.
It now appears that Carvalho’s move to Brentford was fuelled by his feeling of under appreciation.
“As a player, you want to go somewhere where you’re wanted and somewhere where you’re loved – that’s why I’m here” Fabio Carvalho said to the clubs official website in his interview as a Bee.
“You want to be part of a family, part of a structure, and that’s what Brentford is about.
“I’m just so happy to be here.”
Players tend to be overly effusive when they join a new club and Fabio Carvalho would not be different in that regard.
However, dropping a hint of being somewhere that wants and loves you seems to be imply that’s what was missing for him in Merseyside.
Carvalho also made reference to his pre-season with Liverpool, stating that playing consistently is makes him a better player and was one of the reasons he signed for Brentford.
“I had a decent pre-season, played a few games, scored a few goals, which is what it’s about,” he stated.
“For me, I know myself and I play better when I’m playing consistently and that’s what it’s all about.
“As a footballer, you’re going to be able to gain confidence from playing regularly – and I’m already looking to score on Sunday!”
Although his Liverpool career may have ended with disappointment, Liverpool fans will still always appreciate the good times that they had with Fabio Carvalho.
Few will forget his 98th minute winner against Newcastle United in 2022.
For now, LFC fans will wish him the best in his future and just hope that he doesn’t come back to haunt the club in his performances against Liverpool.
