Liverpool FC is reportedly closing in on the potential signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili, the 23-year-old Georgian goalkeeper currently playing for Valencia in La Liga.
The Reds are in the market for a new goalkeeper amid ongoing uncertainties regarding the long-term future of Alisson Becker, who has been linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League.
Mamardashvili has emerged as a top target for Liverpool following his stellar performances both in La Liga and at Euro 2024, where he was instrumental in helping Georgia reach the knockout stages.
During the 2023-24 La Liga season, Mamardashvili featured in 37 matches for Valencia, keeping 12 clean sheets while conceding 41 goals.
His consistent displays have drawn interest from several Premier League clubs including Bournemouth, but Liverpool seems to be leading the race to secure his services.
At Euro 2024, Mamardashvili’s performances were equally impressive, with the young shot-stopper playing a crucial role in Georgia’s surprise run to the knockout stages.
His ability to pull off spectacular saves and maintain composure under pressure has made him one of the tournament’s breakout stars, further increasing his market value.
Fabrizio Romano has already revealed that Liverpool have scheduled meetings with the entourage of Mamardashvili.
What is the latest on Giorgi Mamardashvili and Liverpool?
Spanish outlet Revelo has come out with a report detailing the situation as things stand.
They state that Liverpool is getting closer to signing Giorgi Mamardashvili and are ready to offer around €30 million, with some additional bonuses, to bring him to Anfield.
Valencia are said to be already aware of the considerable interest from the side of Liverpool and are wanting to make a big a profit margin as possible.
Valencia is happy with Liverpool’s offer, but they’re trying to push for even more money, both in the fixed amount and in the bonuses.
The total price could get closer to the €40 million that Valencia’s owner, Peter Lim, initially wanted.
Valencia might also try to keep a percentage of any future sale of Mamardashvili, which could bring them even more cash down the line.
Revelo wrote of the 30m plus proposal of Liverpool:
“No club to date Mamardashvili would like to go had put those amounts on the table so far, so it has been received tastefully in Mestalla offices.”
Liverpool is said to be moving fast on this deal after missing out on Martín Zubimendi. They don’t want this transfer to drag on, so we could see things happen pretty quickly.
In simple terms, Liverpool is all-in on Mamardashvili, and this transfer could be wrapped up sooner rather than later.
