Exclusive: Stefan Bajcetic was aware of Real Sociedad loan interest but was not interested in move

Like Martin Zubimendi, Stefan Bajcetic was unsure about going in the opposite direction.

Stefan Bajcetic is a name that many Liverpool fans have been discussing in recent days.

We exclusively revealed this week that Stefan Bajcetic has been told he will spend next season on loan. A number of news and media outlets have since confirmed our news.

The news has come as a shock to many as the Spaniard has racked up 12 English Premier League appearances and as well as 4 UEFA Champions League games.

Many saw the youngster as a star for the future.

If it wasn’t for truly bad luck with injuries, Bajcetic would surely have made more appearances than that.

Reports began to surface this week that Bajcetic could have been part of the proposed transfer of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano first reported that Bajcetic was discussed in the talks, which we can confirm was indeed the case.

Zubimendi was mulling over Liverpool’s offer for a number of days but opted to stay with his boyhood club in San Sebastian.

The Spanish international grew up idolising Kop hero Xabi Alonso. A number of clubs reportedly made efforts to tempt the midfielder away from the Basque country earlier in the summer. Arsenal, Barcelona, and Juventus were reportedly interested.

Real Sociedad were indeed interested in signing Stefan Bajcetic on loan.

However, the Zubimendi deal was not going to hinder on Bajcetic’s decision.

Discussions were for them to be two separate deals.

The 19-year-old Liverpool midfielder was aware of El Real’s interest in bringing him in for the season, and similar to Martin Zubimendi he wasn’t keen on going in the opposite direction to Sociedad on loan.

Liverpool wanted to negotiate a deal for Martin Zubimendi separate to any potential Stefan Bajcetic loan proposal.
