A former Liverpool attacker has become a free agent after terminating his contract with his club.
A few ex-Liverpool players have been on the move lately, including former Anfield cult hero Daniel Agger, who recently took up a coaching job.
There are rumours and reports that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also wanted by English Premier League clubs a year after he left Merseyside.
And now it’s been confirmed that another former player is looking for a new club.
Xherdan Shaqiri, the Switzerland international, lit fire at times during his three-year stint at Liverpool Football Club.
He was part of the Liverpool team that came from three goals down to beat Barcelona at Anfield on their run to winning the UEFA Champions League in 2019.
He also contributed to the club winning the English Premier League title in 2020.
Shaqiri left Liverpool in 2021, moving to French Ligue 1 giants Lyon in a £6m deal.
However, his time in France did not yield as much success as Shaqiri hoped.
He left France after just six months, signing for Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.
The reported €6.5 million ($7.5 million) deal that took Shaqiri to the MLS club was the most expensive in Chicago Fire history and he signed a contract that would run through the 2024 season as a Designated Player.
However, after two years at the MLS, Shaqiri is now on the move again as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
The Switzerland international, who recently retired from national team football after UEFA Euro 2024, has terminated his contract at Chicago Fire and is looking for another club.
Shaqiri will not be without suitors as he is one of the few players that have played for the biggest clubs in the world.
He began his career in Basel, before joining Bayern Munich, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League, DFB Pokal, Bundesliga, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Shaqiri also played for Serie A giants Inter Milan, before joining Liverpool after spending two years in England at Stoke City.
He was part of the Switzerland squad that reached the quarter final of this summers European Championship.
Scoring against Scotland in the group stages, he became the first player to score in the competitions history while playing for a club from either North or South America.
He also became the first player to score at the last six major international championships (FIFA World Cup ’14, UEFA Euro ’16, FIFA World Cup ’18, UEFA Euro ’20, FIFA World Cup ’22, and UEFA Euro ’24).
With credentials that would rival many a player and talent still on display, it’s not likely to be long before we see Xherdan Shaqiri doing what he does on the football pitch again.
