Valencia are reportedly ‘somewhat puzzled’ as to how Giorgi Mamardashvili has gone about negotiating terms with Liverpool FC.

Liverpool is pushing hard to secure the signing of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the Reds viewing him as a potential long-term replacement for Alisson Becker.

Some fans are surprised that Liverpool is focusing on bringing in a goalkeeper, as they feel other positions need attention first – especially in midfield and defence.

After an impressive showing at Euro 2024 with the Georgian national team, Mamardashvili has attracted significant interest, not just from Liverpool but also from other European clubs like Atletico Madrid.

Mamardashvili had a good showing with Valencia in the 2023/24 season, playing 37 matches and keeping 12 clean sheets

He also impressed during Euro 2024, helping his country Georgia reach the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time in their history.

Standing at 6’6″, Mamardashvili has become known for his imposing presence and shot-stopping abilities.

The Georgian goalkeeper has made significant strides in his career since joining Valencia in 2021 from Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi.

To date, he has kept 31 clean sheets in 100 appearances for Valencia, made even more impressive as it is not the Los Ches sides of old.

Valencia finished 9th last season and 16th in 2022/23, once again showing that Mamardashvili has overperformed with the historic Spain club.

But it seems all that good credit is starting to disappear on the Iberian Peninsula.

Valencia ‘puzzled’ by Giorgi Mamardashvili agreement with Liverpool

Spanish outlet AS have reported that Valencia is ‘somewhat puzzled’ at their player’s agreement with Liverpool.

The report states that the transfer is ‘on track to be closed in the coming days’.

Between Liverpool and Mamardashvili, everything has already been agreed, and it is only the Anfield club that must present a ‘satisfactory’ offer to Peter Lim – the owner of Valencia.

The Georgian keeper has agreed a contract with the Reds worth €4m a year, while Liverpool are hoping to put an end to the saga with an offer worth €35m plus bonuses.

It is well known by now that the 23-year-old will spend the next two seasons on loan at Bournemouth or another Premier League club while Alisson’s future clears.

And it is this detail that Valencia Reportedly find issue with.

He has ruled out returning to Valencia on loan, where the situation has left them “somewhat disconcerted.”

This is because Mamardashvili has repeatedly said in private that he would only leave for major club if he were to depart. He would remain at Valencia otherwise.

But rather, he has consented to spend two years with Bournemouth, a team that placed 12th in the last campaign and was 15 points outside of the European spots.

That hasn’t impressed Valencia much, who do not understand why he will not rather stay on loan at the club for 2024/25.

It may be the reason why they’re continuing to put pressure on Liverpool to pay the highest transfer fee possible for the Georgian.
