Xherdan Shaqiri joins FC Basel

Shaqiri has joined Swiss side FC Basel after two seasons with Chicago Fire.

Fabrizo Romano reported the news, taking to X:

“Xherdan Shaqiri has signed in as new FC Basel player after leaving MLS as free agent.”

Sporting director Daniel Stucki said of the transfer:

“We have been in talks with Xherdan for weeks and are enormously pleased that his return to Basel has finally worked out.

“The signing was only possible – also financially – because FCB, but above all Xherdan himself, wanted this return at all costs.”

“The fact that a player of his calibre is playing for the Red and Blues in the Super League again is a strong signal to the club, the city of Basel and the region, but also to Swiss football in general.”

“We are convinced that our team will benefit from his experience and class.”
