Liverpool’s team has been revealed for the first game of the season.
Arne Slot has gone with a line up that would be familiar to most LFC fans.
But one name has been left out of the squad altogether for the game.
And it seems to have deeper meaning to it.
Joe Gomez is missing from the squad altogether.
Paul Joyce, from The Times, has provided more light on the subject.
In his article, Joyce reports that four clubs are interested in signing the Liverpool defender.
Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Fulham and Chelsea are English Premier League sides named with clubs from abroad also interested.
Gomez has apparently not traveled with the squad to Ipswich and Joyce makes it clear that there’s no guarantees that the defender will leave in the window.
His omission from the squad is merely the consequence of discussions between the club and the 27-year-old around his future.
Gomez is believed to be mulling over his transfer options as he looks to play regularly for a club in his preferred position.
Aston Villa have already been credited with interest in Joe Gomez already.
Newcastle United were involved with conversations around Gomez when a swap deal was muted with Anthony Gordon going the other way.
Fulham and Chelsea interest is new. There is no details provided on who the international clubs are.
LFC fans will be watching and waiting for news as this story develops.
There is not long left in the transfer window and you’d expect that the club would be looking to bring someone in if they Joe Gomez go.
