Salah – 9
If we were ranking him based on his first half, it would be 5/10.
Missed a penalty and seemed to be getting frustrated as everything he tried didn’t come off.
The goal early in the second half changed everything.
From there, he was back to the world class Salah that we all know.
Cut Newcastle open with a pass for the second goal and repeated the trick for Gakpo too. Made amends by scoring another penalty late in the game.
Will be missed when he goes to AFCON, but at least he’s signed off in style.
Nunez – 6
Was today’s game a perfect summation of his time at Liverpool?
At a certain points, it looked like he was in a one-on-one battle with Dubravka.
Missed a number of chances, but on a positive he never seems to hide or shy away from getting into positions to score.
Eventually, that trait will come good for him and you just expect the floodgates to open when it does.
Extra points for getting the assist for Salah’s first goal, but probably lost his starting place to Jota for the next game.
Diaz – 8.5
Diaz was back to his best today.
Excelled in his role up front.
Gave the Newcastle defence all sorts of problems and won the penalty in the first half.
He was playing so well that it was a huge surprise that he was taken off so soon.
Return to form is just in time for Salah’s time away from the team.
