When Liverpool confirmed the return of Michael Edwards and the recruitment of Richard Hughes as the new heads of the club’s transfer operations, many Red fans were excited.

Edwards had set himself apart as a transfer expert in his first stint as the club’s sporting director.

Hughes also did well in a similar role in Bournemouth, so fans were expecting Liverpool’s summer business to be smooth.

However, the Reds’ transfer window has been anything but great.

Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to make a single signing this summer.

While fellow Premier League competitors like Manchester City, United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea have all strengthened their squads, Arne Slot’s side are yet to add any new face.

Liverpool have instead sold a few players, with Fabio Carvalho’s move to Brentford, the most-high profile exit this summer.

But Liverpool’s lack of signing has not been for lack of interest or effort.

The club worked hard to sign Martin Zubimendi and had the received a positive response from the player.

However, the Real Sociedad man had a change of heart and decided to stay at his boyhood club.

Latest update on Liverpool’s summer business

With Zubimendi not coming, fans expect Liverpool to get another defensive midfield player, given that the position is a priority for Arne Slot.

However, there is a possibility the the Reds won’t be signing another midfield player this summer.

This is according to Liverpool journalist Paul Joyce, who said in an interview with Born n Red, that “As it stands, I don’t think there will be another midfield signing.

“I know that will upset people, but I think that’s something for them (LFC) to be judged on in six months’ time.”

Another player Liverpool have seriously looked at is Giorgi Mamardashvili.

But Liverpool and Valencia are still apart in their valuation of the goalkeeper.

There is still hope that the deal can be done, as revealed in our exclusive interview.

However, Joyce also claims that there is also a possibility that Liverpool can go the entire window without bringing in new players.

“It’s possible, the squads not as bad as people make out. They won’t just sign someone for the sake of it,” he said.

It remains to be seen what Liverpool will do before the end of the transfer window.

But new coach Arne Slot has revealed that whatever happens in the transfer market, Liverpool are ready to go ahead with their available options.
