Scottish Premiership side Dundee United are reportedly eyeing a loan swoop for a highly rated Liverpool prospect.
City rivals Dundee FC have already done business with Liverpool this summer after they completed the permanent signing of Liverpool academy player Billy Koumetio.
Perhaps, looking at what the business their rivals have done with the Reds, the Scottish side want another Anfield youngster to come to the city.
But this time, the news relates to a loan deal for a player who has already played for new manager Arne Slot.
The player wanted by Dundee United is Luca Stephenson.
According to Courier Sport, the Scottish club are looking to take Stephenson on a season long loan.
The 20-year-old can play at right wing-back, potentially offering depth for Dundee United following the recent hamstring injury to Ryan Strain.
Luca Stephenson can also play midfield and has operated at left-back for the Reds’ academy.
Stephenson started his career in the Sunderland youth ranks before making the move to Merseyside.
He spent last season on loan with English League Two outfit Barrow, playing 34 times.
The Englishman was part of Liverpool’s senior squad during pre-season and featured in their 4-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday.
Talks between Liverpool and Dundee United are expected this week and if they progess smoothly, a deal could be struck before United’s Premier Sports Cup last-16 game against St Mirren on Sunday.
Apart from Stephenson, another Liverpool youth player that could head out on loan this season is Calum Scanlon.
As we exclusively revealed, the 19-year-old left back is a target for Bristol Rovers.
Other young players who could be heading out on loan are Lewis Koumas, Owen Beck, and Stefan Bajcetic.
