Liverpool head in to tomorrow’s opening Premier League fixture with an unwanted record for many. The Reds remain the only side in the Premier League yet to make an addition to its squad.

After missing out on Martin Zubimendi, Liverpool have turned their attention to a goalkeeper. Giorgi Mamardashvili has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside but his transfer fee has been a stumbling block.

Arne Slot commented on missing out on Zubimendi: “I said many times I said our strong is really strong. It is not easy to find players to strengthen the squad. Zubimendi was one to be fair, but he decided not to come. We move on with the squad we have.”

The Georgian, who came to prominence during the 2024 Euros, is expected to succeed Alisson Becker when the Brazilian finally leaves Anfield.

An immediate loan to Richard Hughes’ former club Bournemouth is expected to happen if Liverpool close the deal. Some reports even suggested it could be a two-year loan. Valencia are standing firm on their €40M valuation.

Valencia coach head coach Ruben Baraja commented on the proposed move today.

“It’s very simple. He is our player and as long as there is no other different situation I am not going to evaluate anything.

“I’m not going to enter into hypotheses. Giorgi is a Valencia player and is ready to participate.

“When the market is open, clubs buy players, transfer…”

“I am focused on tomorrow’s game, he is here, he is ready to participate.”

“We cannot talk about situations that have not yet occurred.”

Exclusive interview with Héctor Gómez

Valencia correspondent Héctor Gómez spoke exclusively to www.daveockop.com.

Gómez reported earlier that “Operation Mamardashvili is not moving forward”, but the Spanish reporter has confirmed to us that the move is still alive. Telling us:

“The negotiation is stopped, but it is not broken. In the coming days, Liverpool have to give a response and say whether they will raise their offer.”

Gomez continues:

“I thought that Valencia would lower the player’s price as the market progressed but now I’m starting to doubt and I think that if Liverpool don’t reach 40 million euros, they won’t sign him.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili really wants to go to Liverpool

The  23-year-old was signed for a reported €850,000 from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2022.

Gómez tells us that he has his heart set on a move to Anfield:

“The striking thing is that the goalkeeper really wants to go to Liverpool. They have convinced him so much that he is willing to go on loan to Bournemouth for a year, when the boy always said that he would only go to a big club.”
