Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both went to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023 after many successful years at Anfield.
The pair served as the backbone of a hardworking and resolute Liverpool side, and they managed to win every trophy available to them.
It was then a bittersweet moment when the pair made the switch Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq respectively, marking a distinct shift Liverpool’s playstyle heading forward.
Of course, playing in the same league means that pair would go up against each other – something that happened on 24 November.
The two sides laboured to a 1-1 draw, with Fabinho now recalling how it felt to play against his former skipper and midfield partner.
Speaking to LFCTV while present to watch Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Newcastle United, the Brazilian recalled his clash in the Saudi Pro League:
“Yes, I played three weeks ago against Hendo and Gini it was a nice experience to play against them,” the ex-Liverpool man began.
“To play against Hendo particularly, to have someone always pressing you, always next to you!”
“It was a nice experience, after the game I spent a long time in their dressing room talking to them.”
“It was really nice to seem them, talk to them, to remember a little bit the good times we spent together.”
It seems that old habits die hard for Jordan Henderson, as his first action is always to press.
It is nice to know that the pair had a chance to speak to Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum, as all will have fond memories of winning the biggest trophies in club football with one another.
