Although the transfer window has been open for well over a month, it seems the action is just beginning for Liverpool.
The Premier League giants have been silent in the market so far, and have signed no player, despite the several names linked with a move to Anfield.
One of such names that have been linked with a transfer to Arne Slot’s side is Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.
The Italian was an ever present fixture for Inter as they won the Serie A title last season.
He made 28 appearances for Simon Inzaghi’s side last season, scoring one goal and assisting four.
He also made four appearances for Italy at the 2024 European Championship, scoring one goal.
A left–footed defender, who started his career as a full-back, Bastoni is also capable of playing as a centre-back.
He is famed for his passing ability and ball control, while his height and ability to exploit spaces allows him to be effective in the air.
Those abilities makes him a goal threat from indirect set–pieces and a player many clubs want.
His profile fits the kind of defender Liverpool will want, with the current Anfield club’s center back options comfortable playing out from the back, and contributing goals.
What Fabrizio Romano said about Alessandro Bastoni
However, despite rumours linking Bastoni to Liverpool, football journalist Fabrizio Romano via his Playback channel has claimed Arne Slot’s side are currently not in discussion to sign the Inter defender.
Although the Reds lost Joel Matip this summer, they are well stocked in defence, with five senior defenders vying for the two central defence spots available in the team.
It remains to be seen if things could change before the transfer window shuts, though, as Arne Slot’s former side are reportedly interested in signing Sepp van den Berg this summer.
