Fabrizio Romano has provided his latest Liverpool transfer update this morning.

The mood around Liverpool and the fanbase could be better after the drawn-out Martin Zubimendi saga that ended with the Reds coming up empty-handed.

The Reds have identified a long-term successor to Alisson in the form of Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The 23-year-old Georgian has made 37 appearances in La Liga for Valencia last season, keeping 13 clean sheets, despite the club’s struggles in the league.

Standing at 6’6″, Mamardashvili has become known for his imposing presence and shot-stopping abilities.

His performances have been particularly notable, keeping 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga appearances during the 2023/24 season, despite Valencia finishing ninth in the league.

His performances at Euro 2024 further bolstered his reputation, particularly in Georgia’s round-of-16 run.

The Georgian arrival could also push Alisson to maintain his high standards, knowing that a capable understudy is waiting in the wings – although he had Caoimhin Kelleher to compete with since 2019.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Liverpool and Giorgi Mamardashvili?

It’s believed that Mamardashvili would prefer to be a starter rather than a backup, but Liverpool may provide him with a route to eventually replace Alisson.

Mamardashvili’s future could be decided soon, with a transfer not only securing Liverpool’s goalkeeping future but also position the young Georgian as a key player for years to come.

After the drawn-out Martin Zubimendi saga it seems that the club is wasting no time securing another transfer target

Fabrizio Romano writes:

“One more meeting has already been scheduled for Liverpool to discuss Giorgi Mamardashvili deal with Valencia.”

“Up to the Reds as he’d be loaned out and Georgian GK is keen on this solution.”

Valencia is willing to let Mamardashvili go but are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of €35-40 million.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are keen to secure his signature and may loan him back to Valencia or another Premier League club for the 2024/25 season to ensure he gains regular first-team experience.

It is thought that Bournemouth would be keen to take the 23-year-old on loan, having held long-standing interest in the ‘keeper.
