French reports claim Liverpool tried to hijack PSG transfer

According to French news outlet Le10sport, Liverpool were willing to battle Paris Saint-Germain for the players signature.

Although Liverpool have not signed any player in the transfer market, it seems the Reds have been making serious moves silently.

So far, Liverpool have confirmed several exits, with the transfer of Fabio Carvalho to Brentford, the latest in a series of departures this summer.

The Reds hold serious in Martin Zubemendi, but the transfer has become protracted, despite player being flattered by Liverpool’s interest as we revealed earlier today.

But while we wait and hope that Zubimendi signs for Liverpool this summer, a fresh report from France has claimed that the club made a significant attempt in signing a highly rated defender this summer.

According to French news outlet Le10sport, Liverpool were interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho, and were willing to battle Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.

According to the report, the Reds made a ‘higher offer’ than the Parisians to Eintracht Frankfurt after learning the two had reached an agreement over the defender.

However, the approach from Arne Slot’s side came too late as the report claims that Frankfurt had already given their word to PSG.

After agreeing terms with the Ligue 1 side, the German side had to reject Liverpool’s offer in order to finalise their talks with PSG, who paid close to €40 million to sign the 22-year-old.

Although Liverpool may have missed out on Pacho, the Reds are well stocked in defence.

Arne Slot’s men have Jarrel Quansah, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate as first team options. while the likes of Sepp van den Berg and Natt Phillips could still feature for the Anfield club this season if they don’t secure moves away from the club.

In the mean time, Liverpool fans will be hoping the Reds announce a new signing soon, ahead of the club’s Premier League opener   on Saturday.
