Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Virgil van Dijk is suffering from an illness therefore he did not travel to London for the FA Cup tie against Arsenal.
Van Dijk was a surprise omission from a strong-looking line-up for the Reds at the Emirates Stadium.
It remains to be seen whether the 32-year-old will recover in time for the Carabao semi-final first leg against Fulham on Wednesday night.
The Netherlands skipper has made 20 appearances in all competitions this term as the Reds lie top of the Premier League and have also progressed to the next stages of the Carabao Cup and UEFA Europa League.
Klopp said: “Virg is ill. We were actually kind of lucky in the last two, three weeks because a lot of staff had it but not the players.
“And now Virg got the virus and we have to see how he feels tomorrow and if he is available for the next one. But for today there was no chance, so we didn’t even try it.”
“Both us and Arsenal got a dream draw playing against each other.”
Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah have been paired at the heart of the Reds’ defence in the absence of Virgil Van Dijk.
Below is Liverpool’s starting XI to face Arsenal today:
Alisson, Gomez, Konate, Diaz, Nunez, Mac Allister, Jones, Gakpo, Elliott, Alexander-Arnold, Quansah.
Subs: Kelleher, Jota, Gravenberch, Clark, Chambers, Gordon, McConnell, Bradley, Nyoni.
