It seems that Liverpool have not lost sight of one target despite the disappointment that was the Martin Zubimendi saga.
Revelo has reported that the Anfield club have submitted a formal offer Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Liverpool’s interest in Mamardashvili is believed to be driven by concerns over the long-term future of Alisson Becker, who has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Although Alisson is still expected to remain at Anfield for the coming season, the Reds are reportedly planning for the future, and Mamardashvili is seen as a potential successor to the Brazilian goalkeeper.
Mamardashvili has been a standout performer for Valencia, making 37 appearances in La Liga during the 2023/24 season.
The 23-year-old managed to keep 12 clean sheets while conceding 41 goals, impressive when you consider that it was in an average Valencia team that finished 9th last season,
His impressive shot-stopping abilities and commanding presence in the box have made him one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Europe.
Additionally, his performances at Euro 2024, where he helped Georgia reach the knockout stages, have only increased his stock.
Liverpool submit formal bid for Giorgi Mamardashvili
The bid is believed to be worth €35m, with the Georgian international said to be keen on the move.
This is seen as a serious bid because Liverpool has been in talks with Valencia for a while, and they knew what the Spanish outfit was asking for—somewhere between €35 million and €40 million.
Valencia is considering the offer, but the final decision will be made by Peter Lim, the club’s main shareholder, who is based in Singapore.
While the offer is close to what Lim wants, nothing is finalized until he gives his approval.
Mamardashvili reportedly wants Valencia to accept Liverpool’s offer. He turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and other mid-level clubs because he feels a strong connection to Valencia.
But he sees this move to Liverpool as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity according to the report.
The plan is that if the deal goes through, he might play for Bournemouth for a year or two, depending on Liverpool’s plans for their current goalkeeper, Alisson.
Then, he would eventually become Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The idea of him staying at Valencia on loan isn’t likely because Liverpool wants him to gain experience in the Premier League, and they’re offering him a salary that Valencia can’t afford to match.
Liverpool wanted to avoid any drama, so they made their offer quickly and seriously, which Valencia appreciates.
The coming days and weeks will be crucial in this transfer as the Reds aim to make the first addition of the summer.
But according to Jamie Carragher, the club will still be a long way off their goals if the Georgian shot-stopper is the only signing of the window.
