Fresh reports from Spain have confimed that Liverpool are keen on signing Real Sociedad defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The Reds have been very quiet in the summer transfer window, with only outgoings confirmed so far.

However, things are expected to accelerate quickly in the coming days for Arne Slot’s men, who are looking for a specialist number 6 in the market.

One name that has emerged as a potential target is Martin Zubimendi. Paul Joyce linking the 25-year-old to a move to Anfield

The Spain international was part of the La Roja squad that won the summer European Championship and it was reported by Paul Joyce that Liverpool are keen on bringing him to Anfield this summer.

What is the latest on Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool

And now reports from Spain have backed up the claims that Liverpool want Zubimendi.

According to Basque journalist Mikel Recalde, Liverpool are serious about the 25-year-old and willing to activate his £60 million release clause.

Recalde also reports that Liverpool are willing to double the Spanish international’s wages.

Real Sociedad are aware that Liverpool have money in their coffers, having not spent any money in the transfer window so far.

As such, the Spanish club are resigned on losing Zubimendi this summer.

However, the report adds that Sociedad are now waiting on the player’s decision and hoping the Spanish international rejects the Red’s offer and remain in La Liga for another season.

As expected, a player of Zubimendi’s quality is highly sought, and Liverpool are not the first Premier League club that have indicated interest in him.

Arsenal and Manchester United are two Premier League clubs that the player have reportedly rejected previously.

He has also previously said no to Bayern Munich, but is genuinely tempted by the prospect of playing for Liverpool and following into he footsteps of his childhood idol, Xabi Alonso.

Zubimendi has always been a passionate follower of the Premier League and has made no secret of the fact that he would like to try his luck there one day.

It should not be forgotten that just a few weeks ago, the Sociedad man declared that he intends to remain at the Basque club beyond this summer.

“This season I will continue at Real,” he said.

“I have a contract. It is the place where I feel most comfortable, so no problem.”

However, with Liverpool now genuingky interested, let’s see if Zubimendi will keep his word.
