Ben Doak and his time at Liverpool has been a bit of an enigma so far.
The electric Scotsman has been in and around the first team since the Reds bought him for £600,000 from Celtic in March 2022.
During Liverpool’s season opener at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea last year, he made his senior debut from the bench.
Thereafter, the Scotsman was given chances in the various cup events until December’s catastrophe
Following a knee injury he suffered in a Premier League 2 match against Chelsea in December, Doak tore his lateral meniscus, requiring surgery and ending what could have been a breakout season for the Scotsman.
He was even called up to the Scotland squad having got himself fit for Euro 2024 only for another injury to rule him out of what would have been his first major tournament at international level.
The teenager was spotted working hard during the off-season and was taken with on pre-season tour.
He featured off the bench in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Real Betis as well as off the bench vs Manchester United.
But it seems that Arne Slot and co. have already made their decision after seeing him in action the past weeks.
Liverpool reportedly make transfer decision on Ben Doak
The Anfield club are now ready to send Ben Doak on loan for the 2024/25 campaign according to the Daily Express.
Despite the setbacks, Doak’s potential was evident in the limited time he played.
His ability to challenge defenders and create opportunities showcased why Liverpool sees him as a valuable asset for the future.
But it seems his immediate future is away from Anfield on a short-term basis.
A simple loan deal is the preferred option for the club, but they have likewise not ruled out a loan deal that has a permanent sale option.
Plenty of Reds benefitted from loan spells last season, including Vitezslav Jaros and Fabio Carvalho – both of whom are set form part of the senior squad under Arne Slot in the 2024/25 campaign.
Therefore, it is not the worst idea for Doak to go out and get some loan experience, and maybe represent an opportunity to work through some of the injury troubles he has been battling through.
