Liverpool have been transformed this season compared to the disappointment of the 2022/23 campaign.
This is largely down to the additions that the club made over the summer to their midfield.
Over the last few seasons, the Reds’ main problem area has been the centre of the park.
Whether that be due to players suffering injuries or just losing their form, Liverpool’s midfield has often been the area to let them down.
However, with the additions of players such as Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, The Reds have been able to take control of more games.
Not only have they helped out defensively, their attacking contributions have also helped Liverpool lose just one Premier League game this season.
However, an area of the midfield which the Anfield club are rather light in is defensive-midfield.
Since the departure of Fabinho, there was only Stefan Bajcetic who is a natural number six.
That is until Endo was signed. In recent games, the Japan international has found his feet and performed well.
However, life at Anfield didn’t start off as smoothly as he would’ve hoped.
This forced Klopp to play Alexis Mac Allister out of position which stopped him from showcasing his full ability.
However, with the January transfer window now open and the summer transfer window closer than we think, the rumour mill has once again started turning.
Liverpool set to battle with rival for signing of Joshua Kimmich
The latest of these reports from AS is that Liverpool have ‘joined the bidding‘ for Bayern Munich star, Joshua Kimmich.
Despite being 28-years-old, the midfielder is one of the best in the world in his position.
Not only is he a defensive-midfielder, he can also cover in the right-back position.
This versatility in players is exactly what Liverpool need in case of an injury crisis.
The German internationals contract runs out in the summer of 2025 so a deal could be struck in the summer.
The report goes on to say that at the moment, Kimmich ‘does not have a representative’ but once he has representation his ‘intention to change scene‘ will be increased.
However, Liverpool aren’t the only Premier League team vying for the transfer of the 28-year-old in summer.
That is according to the report who also claim that Manchester United have ‘joined the bidding‘ for the German.
Furthermore, neither team would ‘frown upon making an offer this summer for Kimmich.‘
If the Anfield club were to sign Kimmich in the summer, it would be a statement of intent and no doubt improve the squad tenfold.
