Former Liverpool player Lucas Leiva has named the best player he played with during his spell at Anfield.
Signed from Grêmio in his native Brazil in 2007, Leiva made 346 appearances for Liverpool across ten seasons.
His time at Anfield was mixed with adversity and triumph, with the Brazilian struggling for game time during his first season under Rafa Benitez.
But with time, the midfielder gained confidence and form.
Leiva eventually becoming a prominent team member under Benitez, Kenny Daglish, Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.
He departed for Lazio in 2017 after playing just two seasons under Klopp and winning one trophy in ten years, yet he is considered a Liverpool cult hero.
He is ranked in the top 40 for most appearances for Liverpool and currently works as a club ambassador.
Spending ten years at Anfield means that Leiva shared the pitch with some of the greatest Liverpool players of the past two decades.
In his first season at the club, he was teammates with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carragher, Javier Mascherano, and Sami Hyypia.
Before he left, he also shared the pitch with great players like Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, and Sadio Mane.
Lucas Leiva picks his greatest Liverpool teammate
However, when asked to name the best Liverpool player he ever shared a dressing room with, Leiva opted for Liverpool favourite and club legend Steven Gerrard.
“Easy question. Probably Stevie [Gerrard],” he told GOAL.
“I played with so many.
“Suarez as well, and Torres and [Philippe] Coutinho.
“But Stevie is up there, up there with the best.”
It is no surprise that Lucas Leiva named Stevie G as the best player he shared the pitch with during his time at Anfield.
The former Liverpool captain was a colossal player who could have walked into any team in the world during his prime.
Most of his ex-teammates, both in Liverpool and the England national team, have named him as one of the best players they have played with, while rivals like Paul Scholes consider him the best English midfielder in their time.
And most LFC fans will agree with what Lucas Leiva concluded also.
