New Manchester United signing Leny Yoro has not had the start he would have wanted at the club.

The Red Devils recently secured the signing of highly-rated French defender from LOSC Lille.

The 18-year-old center-back joined the Red Devils for a total transfer package of €62 million, including €50 million upfront and an additional €12 million in potential add-ons.

Yoro, who has signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year, was a sought-after talent with interest from top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Yoro made an immediate impact, featuring in Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Rangers, where he delivered an impressive debut performance.

However, his promising start at United faced an early setback during a pre-season match against Arsenal in the United States.

Yoro was forced off the field in the first half due to an ankle injury. The injury occurred shortly after another new signing, Rasmus Hojlund, was also subbed off with a hamstring issue

The teenager was subsequently spotted in a moonboot and crutches in the following days, with fears over an ankle injury.

Now the severity of the injury has been confirmed.

How long will Leny Yoro be out for?

It is not good news for the player and Manchester United, as it is well known that Erik Ten Hag desperately wanted defensive reinforcements.

Leny Yoro is expected to be out three months as he recovers from a broken metatarsal according to various reports.

He is only scheduled for a return by October at the earliest, meaning he misses the rest of pre-season and a healthy chunk of the 2024/25 campaign.

Yoro has returned to the UK for additional medical testing, despite his desire to stay with the squad for the duration of the tour.

The injury is a significant blow for both the player and the club, as Yoro was expected to play a key role in United’s defensive lineup.

United fans and management will be closely monitoring Yoro’s recovery, hoping for a swift return to fitness as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

The injury troubles did not cease for Erik Ten Hag, with Marcus Rashford withdrawn with an apparent injury in the first half of United’s 3-2 victory over Real Betis last night.

The club’s next major fixture after the pre-season tour is the FA Community Shield against Manchester City on 10 August, where United will aim to kick off their campaign on a strong note.
