New twist in Martin Zubimendi move to Liverpool

There seems to be a new twist in Liverpool’s quest to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer.

There seems to be a new twist in Liverpool’s quest to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer.

The Real Sociedad defensive midfielder has emerged as one of the primary targets of Liverpool this summer.

The Reds are looking to assemble a squad that can compete for the title with Manchester City.

So far, the Reds have been silent in the transfer market.

But reports from leading journalists like Paul Joyce claim that the Anfield club are keen on activating Zubimendi’s release clause.

Although the £60m release clause figure quoted is  reportedly something Liverpool are unwilling to pay at once, the English Premier League side are hoping that the player’s desire to join them may pave a way for a better payment structure.

However, new reports from Spain claim that the 25-year-old has not given his final yes to Liverpool despite the Reds being keen.

According to Spanish journalist Mikel Recalde, the Real Sociedad man is having some doubts about the decision to move to Anfield.

Writing on Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Recalde claims that this leaves a small chance of hope for Real Sociedad fans that the deal will not go through this summer.

Recalde further reports that Liverpool are impatiently waiting on his final decision, with his indecision likely to push the Reds to other targets.

Perhaps Zubimendi’s decision to remain at San Sebastian is because of intense persuasion from the club.

The Basque outfit launched a charm offensive in a bid to keep the player to his boyhood club.

The Spain international has proven to be a loyal club servant, repeatedly rejecting offers from top teams like Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

With his Sociedad teammate Mikel Merino, reportedly set to leave this summer, perhaps Zubimendi does not want his beloved side to struggle in his absence.

While Liverpool wait for his final decision, the club have reportedly also previously looked at other options like Genoa’s Morten Frendrup, who they have been scouting for a while now.

Even though Recalde’s post gives Sociedad fans a bit of hope, him saying that there’s only a small chance seems to indicate that it’s more likely that the Spain midfielder will depart for Liverpool this summer.
