Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s rumoured interest in his star defender Goncalo Inacio.
The Reds have had a difficult transfer window.
They are the only Premier League side that have not signed a player this summer.
New manager Arne Slot wanted a new defensive midfielder, but Liverpool’s major target Martin Zubimendi turned them down.
Meanwhile their efforts to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili have proven to be problematic as Valencia continue to demand as much as €40m.
With just two weeks left before the Premier League transfer window slams shut, any fans are resigned to the possibility of Liverpool not getting any player.
Slot has already said that Liverpool will move ahead this season with the players at his disposal.
However, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amiron has claimed that the Reds could still sign one of his players.
Gonçalo Inacio has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, having impressed at Sporting Lisbon since making his debut in October 2020.
The Portugal international has earned plenty of rave reviews from Premier League scouts, including those of Liverpool.
The Anfield club have regularly been named as potential suitors and Amorim has refused to rule out the chance of the 22-year-old joining Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of Sporting’s clash with Nacional in Liga Portugal tomorrow, Ruben Amorim stated that he doesn’t even know too much about any negotiations taking place for the defender when speaking to the Portuguese press.
“A lot of news has already come out,” he told O Jogo.
“I don’t know if there have been negotiations.
“Inacio will play tomorrow.
“He’s ready. Whatever happens in the market…
“We already have some experience; we know that our players are very attractive for the market.
“Until it closes, everything is possible.
“No more or less worried about waiting for the market to close.”
At the moment Liverpool’s interest in Goncalo Inacio does not look concrete.
Otherwise, it’s clear that the manager of his club would know about it.
Whether that changes in the coming days, we’ll have to wait and see.
As Amorim himself said, everything is possible.
