The Independent has provided a fresh update on when Liverpool fans can expect Martin Zubimendi to give his final answer on a move to Anfield.
With Liverpool yet to sign a player in this transfer window, there is genuine concern and trepidation among fans that there may be no incoming transfers this summer.
However, there was some joy among the fanbase in recent days after it emerged that the club are genuinely interested in Real Sociedad’s Zubimendi.
Yet, the joys seems to have turned to anxiety in recent days following reports suggesting a delay in the move.
What has been made clear, though, is that Liverpool have contacted the player and the player is flattered by the prospect of wearing the famous red jersey as our exclusive interview with Sociedad-based journalist Mikel Recalde revealed yesterday.
But although the Reds are keen, the player is still undecided, as he is loyal to his boyhood club.
So, there seems to no definite answer on when Zubimendi will say yes to Liverpool.
What the Independent are saying
However, fresh reports from the Independent’s Miguel Delaney has revealed when Liverpool could potentially get a final answer from Zubimendi regarding their interest.
According to the report, the 25-year-old is expected to give his final decision on Monday, as he wants future sorted before La Real’s first home game of the season.
Real Sociedad face Rayo Vallecano next week Sunday, and Zubimendi may be selected for that game if his future is not sorted before then.
But while both clubs wait for his decision, Liverpool have gone ahead with negotiations and structure of the deal.
The Reds are expected to pay the player’s €60 million release clause as they see him as a player that will greatly improve Arne Slot’s team.
If he does make the decision on Monday, the Spanish international, who played in Spain’s European Championship triumph could become Liverpool’s first signing under Slot.
