Tyler Morton has been praising Arne Slot for his tactical ideas and fresh plans for how Liverpool should play under his stewardship.
It is a big pre-season for Morton, who is now 22 and can no longer be considered a youngster with the amount of experiences he has accrued on loan in the past two seasons.
Morton’s first notable loan period came in the Championship, with Blackburn Rovers, in 2022–2023.
The Academy graduate was an excellent single pivot when he played as a No. 6 in a 4-3-3 system.
With his 40 appearances, he played a major part in Blackburn’s near-promotion from the Championship that season.
Morton the joined Hull City on loan at the start of the 2023–2024 season, and this is where he really started to excel.
Morton made 39 appearances and established himself as a vital member of the Hull team, providing important assists and goals.
Along with his defensive duties, his ability to command play from deep made him one of the Championship’s most impressive young midfielders.
Last season, he received his first call-up to the England U21 team, demonstrating his growth with the Tigers.
Hull City was battling for a promotion play-off berth until the final day of the Championship season.
The midfielder has drawn plenty of interest from around Europe, and amid suggestions he could depart permanently this summer, it seems Morton is still relishing the chance to work with Slot.
What did Tyler Morton say about Arne Slot?
The 22-year-old has looked sharp in pre-season and featured for the final 20 minutes in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Arsenal in Philadelphia.
And speaking to liverpoolfc.com after the win, Morton revealed that he and the rest of the squad are embracing what Arne Slot is implementing:
“The style the gaffer is implementing is working and I think it worked today.”
“You can see it’s starting to click already and that’s a big compliment to the management team.”
“I think the players out there today were brilliant, a lot of standout players. I think it’s going to improve quickly and I think it was a very good step in a good direction.”
“He loves Total Football. He’s come in and it’s a style a lot of players love. If you don’t love the style he plays, you shouldn’t be a footballer really!” Morton explained.
“It’s Total Football and it’s every midfielder’s dream. You could see it today in the triangles that were played; he’s big on triangles and they were [working] today.”
“I thought it was brilliant, I thought we dominated and against a very good Arsenal side it was a great display.”
Morton added:
“I’m definitely picking up things here. It’s a very tough pre-season, very intense, you’ve got to work hard for everything. I think that’s what we’re doing, that’s what I’m doing especially.”
“I’ve definitely picked up stuff I can take on into the season.”
The final game in the USA for Liverpool is scheduled for this Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia against Manchester United.
Meanwhile, less than two weeks remain until the action gets underway, with the Reds hosting Ipswich Town on August 17 to begin their Premier League campaign.
