Liverpool have concluded their pre-season tour of the United States with stellar victories over Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Reds have now made the trip back home to Merseyside where they will continue preparing for their upcoming pre-season games against Spanish sides Sevilla and Las Palmas.
As we have previously reported, club captain Virgil Van Dijk was among the six players that haver returned to the AXA training ground after their extended summer breaks.
After The Netherlands lost against England in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals, Van Dijk was visibly upset when discussing his future.
“It will be a summer of reflection, thinking carefully about what I want, at club and national level,” said the 33-year old.
The Dutch captain is currently running out the the final year of his contract with Liverpool F.C. and his future at the club has left fans speculating a possible departure from Anfield.
As the players returned to the AXA training ground, there was an official club video posted on social media capturing the Dutchman’s first interaction back at the club.
WHAT WERE VAN DIJK’S FIRST WORDS AFTER RETURNING TO LIVERPOOL?
Liverpool fans will be reassured to know that the exceptional defender’s first words were “welcome home” as he greeted the camera.
Liverpool fans can feel at ease because the 33-year old defender looks recharged after a much needed time-off. It is always a great sign to see players refer to the club as ‘home’.
For some fans this may not come as a surprise as Fabrizio Romano previously confirmed that the Dutchman was staying at Anfield.
“There’s nothing at all in Virgil van Dijk’s answer on his future, he was just being honest in a post-match interview after an intense game by saying that he will discuss his future after the holidays.” said Romano.
Now fans can directly understand the Dutchman’s stance on Liverpool and this will be a huge boost for Slot and the rest of the squad heading into the 2024/25 campaign.
