Liverpool’s 2024 summer transfer window has been one of the slowest in recent memory, leading to significant frustration among fans.

The lack of new signings has not only left Liverpool as the only team in Europe’s top five leagues without any incoming players but also put them behind rivals like Manchester City and Arsenal, who have both made notable moves to strengthen their squads.

The Gunners have strengthened with Italy international Riccardo Calafiori and are poised to complete the signing of Euro 2024 hero Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad ironically.

Meanwhile Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are showing ambition in the transfer window having already brought in Savinho from Troyes.

Even Manchester United has been busy, bringing in Joshua Zirkzee to bolster their attacking options as well as teenage defender Leny Yoro.

But Reds fans are growing increasingly concerned.

Liverpool has lost players like Thiago, Joel Matip, and Adrian, and there has been no concrete action to replace them.

While head coach Arne Slot has expressed a desire to carefully assess the squad, the inactivity has left fans anxious as other Premier League clubs have bolstered their teams.

The transfer window closes in just 15 days, making it entirely possible that Arne Slot will not have any major signings in his first summer at the club.

The lack of activity is puzzling for a club that is not only aiming to return to the summit of English football but is also under the guidance of a new head coach.

What did Arne Slot say about the transfer window?

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Ipswich Town on Saturday, Arne Slot was quizzed on the state of the transfer window – with the August 30 deadline rapidly approaching.

When quizzed on whether his squad has become weaker with no signings, the Dutchman replied:

“That argument I don’t understand – if you don’t strengthen the team you become weaker?”

“Because either you would stay the same or [get better]. I truly believe that the training ground is where you can help players and the team improve.”

“That’s what happened here in the recent years, that the training ground really helped the team to improve.”

“Maybe what you mean is that the clubs around you strengthen their team then they become better… but it’s not always true if you bring in new players the team becomes stronger.”

“I also believe that every player in the team has to have perspective on game-time. If you keep bringing players in sometimes the energy in a group goes down as well.”

“But like I said, Richard and me are trying to strengthen the squad, but unfortunately the one we thought could help us said no.”

“In the background, Richard is trying to improve the team, but my focus is fully on Ipswich Town.”

The clock is ticking, and with the transfer window set to close on August 30, Liverpool’s recruitment team faces immense pressure to deliver.

While there is hope that the club will make some late moves, the overall sentiment among the fanbase is one of frustration and impatience.

It would not reflect well if Arne Slot is not granted any signings in his debut season witht the club – no matter what he says in the public eye.
