Another club has reportedly entered the race for the signature of Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg.
The Dutchman has become one of the most talked about names in the rumour mill this summer.
Several clubs have been interested in his services following his successful loan spell at Bundesliga side Mainz 05 last season.
Van den Berg made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, featuring in 93% of the available minutes as the Dutchman helped Mainz retain their Bundesliga status
The German club was the Dutchman’s third loan spell since his move to Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in 2019.
Therefore, there is serious desire on the player’s part to leave Anfield this summer for more game time, unless he can be guaranteed a place in Liverpool’s first team.
But so far, there is little indication that he will start ahead of the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah in the Liverpool’s first team.
Yet, Liverpool manager Arne Slot is said to be a big admirer of the Dutchman and will be happy to keep him at Anfield beyond this summer if no concrete offer comes.
Liverpool have not closed the door about the 22-year-old’s departure, though.
The Reds have slapped a £20 million price tag around the defender’s neck.
Current Eredivisie defending champions PSV, wanted van den Berg and were hoping that the Reds will reduce their asking price, but Liverpool are not ready to back down on the price.
New club interested in Sepp van den Berg
However, a new Dutch club will attempt to sign the defender from Liverpool.
According to Dutch news outlet, Voetbal International, Feyenoord are set to compete for Sepp van den Berg and will try to convince the Liverpool defender to transfer to De Kuip.
The Dutch club are aware of Liverpool’s £20 million asking price, but they believe they have a chance.
Perhaps, Feyenoord are encouraged by the fact that their former manager Arne Slot is the man now at the helm at Afield and will put in a good word about the Dutch giants to van den Berg.
The new manager spent three seasons at De Kuip, winning the title in his second full season at the club, finishing second place out last season.
