David Ornstein confirms Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool news

Liverpool have reportedly gotten a yes from their main midfield target for the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have reportedly gotten a yes from their main midfield target for the summer transfer window.

The Reds, have been silent in the transfer window so far, but latest reports from Spain claim that they may be close to completing their first signing under Arne Slot.

After returning from their pre-season tour of the United States, Liverpool have identified the defensive midfield position as an area of the pitch they need strengthening.

Although the Reds rejected an offer from Marseille for Wataru Endo, they still want to sign a number 6 this summer, and Martin Zubimendi is the man they have identified for that role.

The Real Sociedad man is one of the best players in the world in his position and was part of the  Spain squad that won the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

He has attracted interest from several top clubs including Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester united, but he rejected them all to remain in his boyhood club.

Martin Zubimendi agrees to join Liverpool

It now seems that Zubimendi has agreed to join Liverpool this summer.

Although the midfielder previously stated that he intends to stay at Reale Arena beyond this summer, it appears that Liverpool’s pull is too much and he will be joining up with the Reds this season.

Spanish outlets have reported that the 25-year-old wants to join Liverpool this summer.

David Ornstein of the Athletic has also confirmed the news.

However, the transfer journalist claims that despite the player’s desire to move to Anfield, Arne Slot’s side will still need to pay the player’s £51.7 million release clause.

Real Sociedad are aware that the English Premier League side are financially buoyant, having not signed a player this summer, and are only ready to sanction a deal if Liverpool pay the full release clause.

But their demands could has complicated the deal, as Liverpool are reluctant to meet their demands of a full initial deposit.

The 25-year-old has been a loyal servant of the club, so Sociedad won’t stand in his way if he demands to move to Anfield this summer.
