UEFA Euro 2024 made stars out of many players.
Lamine Yamal, Arda Guler, Nico Williams and many more stars shone bright in Germany.
Typically, after a Euros, players are brought and sold off the back of successful tournaments.
Georgia were one of the major successes of the tournament.
Put into a group with Spain, Portugal and Czechia, not many thought they’d do anything.
Yet, they beat Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portuguese side and progressed to the Round of 16.
In what was a truly shocking moment, they even took the lead against Spain in that game, before they put to the sword and dropped out 4-1.
Still, they’d won many fans along the way.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the talisman on the team, was the name that most people knew before heading into the tournament.
But Georgian players ensured that many knew the names of some of their other stars too.
One of those stars was Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Valencia goalkeeper was one of the stars of the tournament and likely only didn’t win the best goalkeeper of the tournament due to his side being knocked out so early.
At just 23 years old, Mamardashvili showed the footballing world that he’s the next big thing in terms of world class goalkeepers.
Seemingly out of nowhere, reports emerged a few days back that Liverpool were in talks to sign the Valencia shotstopper.
With Alisson still at the club, many wondered what this would mean.
However, it’s since been speculated that Liverpool could loan him back to Valencia in the hope of him returning to Anfield if and when Alisson moves on.
Now Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the matter.
Speaking on his Playback, Romano claims that Liverpool have been offered the possibility to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili and send him out on loan.
Mamardashvili is supposedly keen on the move and the idea of exiting on loan.
Romano then states that Liverpool haven’t made a decision yet on whether to pursue the deal.
If Liverpool were to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili, it would be a serious move.
Despite his relatively young age, he’s played a number of top flight games and even excelled in international tournaments.
As a long term successor to Alisson, it would be a no brainer.
