Joshua Kimmich and his future at Bayern Munich is not exactly clear.
It’s believed that his relationship with manager Thomas Tuchel is not as good as it could be.
The former Chelsea manager has reservations about Kimmich’s ability to play as archetype no.6.
This was evidenced by Bayern Munich’s late attempt to prise Joao Palhinha from Fulham late on in the transfer window.
Recently, a report stemming from Spanish outlet AS claimed that Liverpool had already ‘joined the bidding’ for the in-demand star.
Nonetheless, the player himself may have already hinted as to which Premier League outfit he would join if presented with the opportunity.
What did Joshua Kimmich say about Pep Guardiola?
The Manchester City manager handed Kimmich his debut back in 2015.
The pair spent two and a half seasons together before Pep Guardiola moved onto Manchester City.
Of his experience under Guardiola, Kimmich said back in 2017:
“It was an incredible experience.”
“He is also very detail-orientated, very creative and puts big demands on his players.”
“What he knew about the opposition and the way he practiced formations was impressive. My team-mates were always exactly where Pep Guardiola had prophesised.”
On being bought by Pep Guardiola and being handed his debut, the German international said:
“I was 20-years-old playing in the second division. I was like, ‘Why do they want to get me when they can have every player in the world?’
“So, it was a bit strange for me. But I knew I had this great opportunity.”
“I sat down in a conference room at Bayern’s offices waiting to meet Pep Guardiola.”
“All I knew about Pep was from what I had seen on TV.
“I was so nervous, but as he walked in, I felt it right away – that trust.”
“And immediately I knew I wanted to play for Bayern.”
“Pep spoke to me about my strengths and my weaknesses, and how he wanted to help me become a better player by learning a different style of play.”
“‘I want you on this team,’ he told me. That’s a moment I will never forget.”
So, from Kimmich’s words, it seems that he respects and appreciates his former manager a lot.
His experience working under Guardiola means Manchester City could have an advantage in a potential transfer race.
