Journalist makes bizarre claim that Luis Diaz has agreed to join Manchester City

Huge claims from Spain have just come out suggesting that Man City have already agreed a deal with Luis Diaz

Some quite bizarre news has emerged from Spain regarding Luis Diaz and Manchester City.

There has been some rumours linking the Colombian away from Anfield, but it was links to Barcelona.

The transfer window has now taken an even crazier turn now however.

El Chiringuito have reported that and agreement between Man City and Luis Diaz has been reached on a five-year deal

Pep Guardiola’s side are reportedly ready to pay €70m.

It is believed that the departure of Julian Alvarez has made Pep Guardiola dip into the market for replacement options.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are already looking for alternatives, which is making the prospect of Anthony Gordon even more interesting if these reports are to be believed.

Journalist Marcos Benito claimed:

“One of the most important summer events: it’s about Luis Diaz.”

“They just told me that he has an agreement with Manchester City – wow!”

“[It is] a five-season contract. City is willing to pay €70m – this what they [Liverpool] ask for.”

“They told me that the agreement between the player and the club is complete.”

“We’ll see what happens with Liverpool if they finally accept… but right now the information is Luis Diaz has an offer and he accepted it from Manchester City for five seasons.”

Update on Luis Diaz

The claims from El Chiringuito have since been refuted by a plethora of reliable journalists including the Athletic’s Sam Lee and Fabrizio Romano.

The Manchester City journalist wrote on X:

“Understand there is no truth in the Luis Diaz links. That was genuinely fun for 15 minutes.”

“Apart from anything else, signing *any* winger would feel a bit mad at the moment”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano took to Instagram to report:

“Liverpool and Man City both ???? agreement for Luis Diaz after reports.”

“Spanish reports guaranteed an agreement was done between Diaz and Manchester City, but clubs deny.”

“Liverpool guarantee they’ve received no approaches for Luis Diaz, Man City play down agreement reports.”

The prospect of Luis Díaz moving to Manchester City seemed unlikely but also defied logic on multiple levels.

In the wide attacking positions, Manchester City already has an abundance of talent, including Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Savinho.

Therefore, we can safely file this one under transfers that are not happening.
