Liverpool have decided to give young goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga a new contract.

The young Brazilian has been at the club since 2020 after he joined the youth setup from Fluminense.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for the club but the new contract has shown that the club have faith in him in the future.

Faith has already been shown into Pitaluga as he has been in the match day squad seven times before.

Pitaluga has had a loan deal out to Macclesfield Town in the past and now he has a new loan to further impress the Liverpool coaching staff.

Marcelo Pitaluga has joined St Patrick’s Athletic

The 21 year old will be going to the Irish League to gain some more experience in a competitive league.

He will be joining St Patrick’s Athletic the club that Vitezslav Jaros had a successful spell at so the clubs have a good relationship.

Pitaluga spoke to the Irish club’s media side after joining the club.

He said: “It feels amazing to have joined St Pat’s, it’s going to be a really big season and I can’t wait.

The Liverpool goalkeeper coach spoke to me about the possibility a few weeks ago, I heard many good things about St Patrick’s and the League of Ireland from Vitezslav Jaros and also spoke to Jon (Daly) and PJ (Pat Jennings), I think it will be really good for my career so I decided to come here.

Viet had many great things to say about the club and about the fans, the staff here, Pat Jennings is still here which is absolutely fantastic for me also.

“I watched clips of St Pat’s online and I watched the FAI Cup final too which looked like an unbelievable experience for everyone, that played a part in my decision too so I’m looking forward to starting the season.”

The Irish League will start in early February.
