Various Liverpool players have been linked with a move away from the club this summer. Joe Gomez is one of the names that has attracted interest from clubs in England and overseas.

One of the clubs reportedly interested in Gomez was Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich.

There were also initial discussions of a possible swap deal between Liverpool and Newcastle United involving long-linked attacker Anthony Gordon and Joe Gomez.

Newcastle made the initial proposal to comply with the English Premier League’s PSR rules.

However, the deal fell through because Eddie Howe’s side eased their PSR concerns through the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.

There were also recent reports claiming Gomez was being monitored by English side West Ham. However, nothing concrete has been reported so far.

What did Paul Joyce say about Joe Gomez?

Paul Joyce of the The Times has now revealed that Joe Gomez “remains committed to Liverpool” and is focused on emerging as a key player under Arne Slot.

There were ongoing discussions between Liverpool and Newcastle for a swap deal between Anthony Gordon and Joe Gomez.

It has now been revealed that these discussions never reached the stage where Liverpool’s defender was in conversation with Newcastle.

While the defender was away with the England squad at the UEFA Euro 2024, Slot called contacted the 27-year old to discuss his plans ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Interest in Gomez is not unusual as the defender is versatile and can thrive in various positions including as a full-back, at centre back and also as a No.6 in midfield.

Slot’s style of play requires versatility from players especially defenders who are able to turn defence into attack quickly and also adapt in various other positions.

Along with Van Dijk, Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konaté and Nat Phillips at the back, Gomez can be used as a great rotational player to fill any of these positions whenever required.
