On Tuesday afternoon, news exploded into life that Luis Diaz had agreed a deal with Manchester City.

The reports came from Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, who had some lofty claims about Liverpool’s N0.7.

In 2023/24, the 27-year-old managed 13 goals and five assists in 51 games across all competitions for the Reds.

And it seems that Pep Guardiola’s side were reportedly ready to pay €70m for the Colombian off the back of his last campaign.

It is believed that the departure of Julian Alvarez has made Pep Guardiola dip into the market for replacement options.

But now, those claims have already been refuted.

Reliable Manchester City reporter Sam Lee reports:

“Understand there is no truth in the Luis Diaz links. That was genuinely fun for 15 minutes.”

Díaz himself has shown no desire to leave Anfield. He has repeatedly expressed his commitment to Liverpool despite all the transfer links to Barcelona in particular.

Saying in June ahead of the Copa America, the 27-year-old said amid transfer speculation:

“I’m very happy there at Liverpool, it’s a great team and club, I’ve always wanted to play there, so I’m very happy and relaxed.”

Manchester City already boasts a wealth of talent in the wide attacking positions, including Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva, Savinho, and Jeremy Doku.

Adding Díaz to this mix would create unnecessary congestion in positions where City is already well-stocked, making such a move seem redundant.

And Sam Lee has not been the only journalist to refute these claims, with Fabrizio Romano himself taking to X to write:

“Liverpool and Man City both ???? agreement for Luis Diaz after reports.”

“Spanish reports guaranteed an agreement was done between Diaz and Manchester City, but clubs deny.”

“Liverpool guarantee they’ve received no approaches for Luis Diaz, Man City play down agreement reports.”
