The January transfer window is now upon us, with Liverpool top of the table heading into what will be a busy month for the Reds.

While it not expected that Liverpool will do any transfer business this winter, in recent years the Reds have sometimes pulled a rabbit out of the hat.

Genoa’s Morten Frendup has once again been reported as a player Liverpool are looking at according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Dane has enjoyed a fine season in Serie A so far.

He has played 18 games for the Italian side, providing 4 assists while playing as a defensive midfielder.

Out of possession is where Frendup seems to thrive.

According to Fbref, the 22-year-old ranks in the 99th percentile for tackles won, in the 88th percentile for blocks made, and the 69th percentile for interceptions.

Furthermore, he ranks in the 93rd percentile for assists, meaning he is creative in addition to his defensive acumen.

Doubts around Morton Frendup

Nonetheless, it is believed that a deal for the Dane in January will be unlikely as scouts continue to monitor the midfielder.

His non-homegrown status is though to be a mitigating factor at this early stage.

His market value is appraised at €10 million by transfermarkt.com.

The player’s age and tenacity will likely earmark him as a suitable candidate for Jurgen Klopp.

However, he is yet to be capped for Denmark, having made 11 appearances for the U21 side.
